Traditional Metal Braces

Traditional Metal Braces

Orthodontic treatment uses braces to move teeth into the correct position. Misaligned or crowded teeth can lead to plaque accumulation and affect appearance.

Traditional braces consist of metal, ceramic, or reinforced plastic brackets and metal wires. The dentist fixes these to the teeth and applies regular pressure to move them.

“External” vs. “Internal” Braces:

  • External Braces: Fixed to the outside of the teeth; more economical.
  • Internal (Lingual) Braces: Fixed to the inside; invisible to others but more difficult to treat, requiring a specialist.

Bone Screws and Rubber Bands:

Miniature titanium or stainless steel implants (bone screws) and rubber bands may be used to accelerate tooth movement or address complex issues like tooth protrusion or deep bites.

Daily Care:

Metal braces easily trap food and plaque, which can lead to gingivitis or enamel damage. It is essential to use fluoride toothpaste, soft brushes, floss, and interdental brushes after every meal.
